Men's Tennis Falls to #24 Brandeis, 7-0

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to #24 ranked Brandeis University on Sunday afternoon at the Rieger Tennis Courts.

The host Judges improve to 8-4 with their fifth win in the last six matches. The Bears fall to 2-3 on the season.

The two teams were meeting for just the second time and first since 2021.

Brandeis swept the three doubles match and captured each of the six singles flights in straight sets.

Sophomore Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel) posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the top flight singles matchup. Shemesh also teamed with classmate David Wang (Shanghai, China) for a 6-0 win at second doubles to lead the way for the Judges.

Junior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla.), freshmen Muaz Malik (Dubai, UAE) and Oliver Lorenz (Albuquerque, N.M.), Wang and freshman Yaseen Houwari (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also won in straight sets for Brandeis in singles competition at the second through sixth flights, respectively.

Garbett edged BSU senior Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) in a tought first set at second singles, 7-5, before earning the victory with 6-0 decision in the second set.

Garbett and Lorenz combined for a 6-3 triumph at the top doubles flight while Houwari and Malik teamed up for a 6-3 win at number three.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Roger Williams University on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Hawks at three o'clock. The Judges are off until Wednesday, April 8th when they entertain the Engineers of MIT at 3:30. MIT was ranked 28th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III Poll.
