BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team finished its regular-season home schedule with a Little East Conference victory.
The Bears defeated Salem State University, 9-0, on Senior Day at the Rosen Memorial Courts Wednesday afternoon.
Following the conclusion of the match, the Bears honored seniors Matthew Krampf (Littleton, Mass.) and Kyle Robbins (Cataumet, Mass.)
BSU is 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference with one match remaining. Salem State falls to 2-5 and is 1-5 in the Little East.
Junior Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) was a winner at No. 1 singles, outlasting junior Quentin Wilkins (Hamilton, Mass.), 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 10-5.
Junior Tom Ayson (Plymouth, Mass.) won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3, over sophomore Mark Wood (Lynn, Mass.) and sophomore Khiem Nguyen (Burlington, Vt.) took No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1, over freshman Lachlan Hall (Burlington, Mass.).
At No. 4 singles, sophomore Anthony Lucas (Weymouth, Mass.) prevailed, 6-0, 6-0, over sophomore Michael Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka), while Krampf won at No. 5 singles over graduate student Kevin Merino-Rivas (Billerica, Mass.), 6-0, 6-2.
Junior Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) was the winner at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0, over senior Josh Gruber (Townsend, Mass.).
In doubles, Beatrice and Nguyen took No. 1, 8-4, over Wilkins and Wood.
Ayson and Lucas teammed to win at No. 2 doubles, 8-1, over Hall and Merino-Rivas.
The No. 3 team of Krampf and Robbins took an 8-3 decision over Gruber and Muttiah.
The Bears finish the regular season on Saturday by playing on the road against UMass Boston at 1 p.m. The Little East tournament begins next week.
Salem State hosts the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
