BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team moved above the .500 mark on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears improved to 5-4 with a 7-2 victory over Western Connecticut State University at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

BSU won all three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches.

The Bears are now 3-1 in the Little East Conference with two matches remaining. Western Connecticut State is 5-8 and 2-2 in the conference.

Singles wins were posted by junior Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.), sophomore Khiem Nguyen (Burlington, Vt.), freshman Tyler Rocchio (Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Anthony Lucas (Weymouth, Mass.) for BSU.

Beatrice was a 7-5, 6-2 winner over senior Kevin Tenesca (Danbury, Conn.) at No. 1 while Nguyen took No. 3 over senior Nicholas Peschier (Bridgeport, Conn.), 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 5, Rocchio won over freshman Jack Buck (New Fairfield, Conn.), 6-0, 6-0, and Lucas was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over freshman Jose Zambrano (Danbury, Conn.).

Western Connecticut State junior Aidan Burke (Wilton, Conn.) took No. 2 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 10-2, over junior Tom Ayson (Plymouth, Mass.).

Senior Caleb Harris (Guilford, Conn.) defeated BSU senior Matthew Krampf (Littleton, Mass.), 3-6, 6-4, 10-2, at No. 4 singles.

Beatrice and Nguyen combined to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-7 (7-3), over Tenesca and Burke while Ayson and Lucas won at No. 2 doubles, 8-1, over Peschier and freshman Henry Gsell (Bridgewater, Conn.).

Rocchio and junior Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) won No. 3 doubles, 8-1, over Harris and Zambrano.

Rocchio is now 8-1 (4-0 LEC) on the season in singles play while the doubles tandem of Rocchio and Hebert is a perfect 4-0 (3-0 LEC).

BSU has its final regular-season home match on Wednesday against Salem State at 3:30 p.m.

Western Connecticut State plays in New York Tuesday at 3:30 against John Jay College.
