BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over visiting Wheelock College on Friday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
Bridgewater improves to 3-0 as the Bears have opened the season with three consecutive 9-0 victories. Wheelock falls to 0-1 as the Wildcats were competing in their season-opener.
Junior Nicholas DeSisto (Uxbridge, Mass.) and sophomore Colin Fontaine (Westfield, Mass.) earned an 8-3 decision at number one doubles, while freshman Jarred Diorio (Kingston, N.H.) and junior Greg Sheedy (South Dennis, Mass.) breezed to an 8-0 triumph at the second spot. The Bears third flight doubles team of junior Shawn Robinson (Uxbridge, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Ugrinow (Charlton, Mass.) added an 8-1 victory. DeSisto, Sheedy, Robinson and Ugrinow were all making their season debuts.
Freshman Wesley Esthimer (Franklin, Mass.), senior Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, Mass.), freshman Sean Bleau (North Dighton, Mass.), junior Michael Kofman (Chestnut Hill, Mass.), and sophomores Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) all recorded straight set singles wins at the first through sixth flights, respectively, as the Bears entire 12-man roster competed in the match.
In upcoming action, Bridgewater State travels to Curry College on Sunday afternoon to take on the Colonels at noon, while Wheelock entertains Wentworth on Tuesday evening at seven. If rain is a factor on Sunday, the match will be moved to 2:30 PM at the Weymouth Club.
