BRIDGEWATER, MASS. -- The Bridgewater State College men's tennis team defeated UMass Boston, 6-3, in Little East Conference action on Monday afternoon.

Bridgewater won four of six singles matches and two of the three doubles flights as BSC improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the Little East.  The Bears have now won three straight matches and six of their last seven.  UMass drops to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.

Senior Matt Charest (Somerset, MA) won the battle of the top singles players as he won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.  He also teamed with freshman Duncan Yarworth (Wrentham, MA) for an 8-1 victory at the number one doubles flight.

Senior Brendon Barbo (Yarmouthport, MA) battled to a tough three-set win (3-6, 6-0, 6-4) at fifth singles as he came back from a set down.  Barbo and freshman Jeff Belleville (Grafton, MA) teamed up for an 8-5 triumph at second flight doubles.

Also winning in singles play for the Bears were sophomore Justin Lipomi (Lowell, MA) at the fourth flight and fellow sophomore David Campbell (Vineyard Haven, MA) at the sixth flight.

Seniors Eric Livingstone (Franklin, MA) and Anh-Phi Tran (Brussels, Belgium) posted singles victories for UMass as they won at the second and third flights respectively. Senior Amit Kumar (Bangalore, India) and freshman Dara Chhan (Phnom Penh, Cambodia) paired up for an 8-6 decision at third doubles.

The Bears will host Little East Conference foe UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 PM.  UMass travels to Johnson & Wales University tomorrow for a 3:30 match with the Wildcats.
