BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior defender Gavin Norton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
A native of Rockland, Massachusetts, Norton potted the game-winning goal with seven minutes remaining in the contest to lift the Bears to a 3-2 come-from-behind, season-opening win last week over Johnson & Wales University.
In 56 career games (48 starts) over four seasons at Bridgewater State, Norton has recorded seven goals (two game-winners) and 12 assists for 26 points. The Bears have an overall record of 30-16-12 (.621), including a 16-3-2 (.810) MASCAC regular season mark, over the course of his career.
The MASCAC Player of the Week honor marks the first of Norton's career.
The BSU men's soccer team is currently 1-0 on the young season. The Bears travel to Middlebury College on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Panthers at four o'clock. Middlebury was ranked third in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) NCAA Division III Preseason Poll.
