BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's and women's soccer programs were recognized today by the United Soccer Coaches as one of 697 teams (283 men, 414 women) across all three Divisions to earn the Team Academic Award for the 2024-2025 academic year.
In order to garner the Team Academic Award, a squad must post a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher for the academic year.
Of the sixteen soccer programs in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), only Bridgewater State and the MCLA women's team earned the recognition.
Under head coach Yasmina Carvalho, the BSU women's team posted a 3.25 team GPA during the 2024-2025 academic year. This marks the fourth straight year that the Bears earned the USC Team Academic Award.
Individually, the Bears saw 23 team members earn MASCAC Fall/Winter All-Academic honors in 2024-2025. Graduate student Emily McCormack (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and seniors Bailey Brown (Plymouth, Mass.), Mia Chrisafideis (Marlborough, Mass.), Tristen Gomes (Middleboro, Mass.), Makenna Lessard (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Cheyenne Nelson (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Sydney Sousa (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Alexis Vanderzeyde (Middleboro, Mass.) each garnered the accolade as well as juniors Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.), Erin Richards (Plymouth, Mass.), Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.), Lauren Sellmayer (North Easton, Mass.) and Ariana Snelgrove (East Bridgewater, Mass.); sophomores Nina DiRusso (Braintree, Mass.), Yessica Duran (Gardner, Mass.), Natalie Mattos (Fairhaven, Mass.), Caroline McCormack (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Molly Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) and Kacey Parker (Attleboro, Mass.); and freshmen Sarah Duran (Hull, Mass.), Juliana Matos (Taunton, Mass.), Hope Montgomery (Abington, Mass.) and Anna Rice (Weymouth, Mass.).
Under head coach Brendan Adams, the BSU men's team posted a 3.17 GPA as a unit last year. 2025 marks the ninth time in the last 11 years that Bridgewater State has collected the award from the national coaches' organization. The Bears also picked up the accolade in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2024.
Eighteen members of the Bears' men's soccer team earned MASCAC Fall/Winter All-Academic honors in 2024-2025. Seniors Daniel Beverage (Wallingford, Conn.), Carsten Boloz (Southborough, Mass.), Dominek Borden (New Bedford, Mass.), Ethan DeMelo (Acushnet, Mass.), Jack O'Toole (Wilbraham, Mass.), Jacob Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.), Justin Silva (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Jacob Silvestre (Seekonk, Mass.) each garnered the honor as well as juniors Ryan Healy (Cork Ireland) and Filippo Mucci (Vineyard Haven, Mass.); sophomores Demott Amorim (Wrentham, Mass.), Hector Bucio (North Easton, Mass.), Ethan Mallett (Ellington, Conn.), Frankie Morales (Brockton, Mass.), Nicholas Ribeiro (Bellingham, Mass.) and Connor Wesloski (Wilbraham, Mass.); and freshmen James Billiter (Irvine, Calif.) and Tyler Rocchio (Attleboro, Mass.).
