WORCESTER, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University men's soccer team edged Worcester State University, 2-1, on Friday night at Coughlin Field.

The Bears improve to 6-5 on the season and 2-2 in the MASCAC, while the Lancers fall to 4-6-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.

Zachary Ells (Douglas, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Bears, recording his first goal of the season in the 14th minute. Ells received a pass from Kane Moran (Perth, Australia) and was able to turn and send a shot past the Worcester State goalie.

The Lancers responded in the 36th minute with a goal from Gift Kalombo (Worcester, Mass.). Kalombo dribbled into the box and fired a shot that was turned aside by the Bridgewater State netminder. The teams went into the half still tied. Both teams had seven shots in the first 45 minutes.

Bridgewater State goalkeeper Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) earned the win, his sixth of the season, while recording four saves. Lancer keeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) turned aside three shots in the setback.

Shots were even at 13 apiece, while the Lancers held a 7-0 edge in corner kick attempts. The Bears played the final 11 minutes of the contest a player down.
