Men's Soccer Battles Worcester to 0-0 Double Overtime Tie

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State and Worcester State played to a 0-0 double overtime tie in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's soccer contest on Saturday night at Swenson Field in Bridgewater.

The Bears are now 2-4-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in the MASCAC, while Worcester's record goes to 1-5-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.

BSU junior netminder Matt Bagley (Braintree, Mass.) turned aside seven shots and Worcester freshman keeper Nick Zucco (Ludlow, Mass.) made five saves as they each recorded their second shutouts of the season.

Bagley made three great stops during the overtime periods.  In the first extra session he turned aside a point-blank shot and the ensuing rebound off the foot of Worcester State freshman forward Alex Goncalves (Ludlow, Mass.).  Bagley then made a diving stop of freshman midfielder Alfred Sogia's (Worcester, Mass.) scoring bid that was labeled for the top right corner midway through the second overtime.

Bridgewater held a 24-16 shot advantage for the game as well as an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.  In the two overtime periods however, the Lancers outshot the Bears, 6-1, and attempted all three corner kicks of the extra sessions.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater hosts Gordon College on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 while Worcester entertains Wheelock College on Tuesday night at seven.

Notes: Bridgewater's last double overtime tie occured on September 17th of last season at home against Westfield State.
