Men's Basketball Falls to Rivier, 94-83

NASHUA, N.H. -- The Rivier College men's basketball team had three starters each score more than 20 points as the Raiders defeated Bridgewater State University Saturday afternoon.

Seniors Izaiah Shaw-Glen (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Robenson Baguidy (Goffstown, N.H.) and Jamari Williams (Miami Gardens, Fla.) combined for 68 points in a 94-83 victory over the Bears at the Muldoon Center.

The loss drops BSU to 1-7 and 0-5 on the road while Rivier, a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, improved to 5-5.

It was the first meeting between the two programs.

Shaw-Glen had 24 points on 11-for-14 shooting to go with 13 rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots.

Baguidy had 23 points, 10 assists, four rebounds and two steals while Williams scored 21 points and added seven rebounds.

BSU had four players in double figures, led by senior Dante Kikuba (Framingham, Mass.) with 25 points, hitting 5 of 8 shots from 3-point range.

Kikuba also had five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Junior Zach Taylor (Quincy, Mass.) added 16 points and nine rebounds and junior Samuel Omisore (Boston, Mass.) scored 15 points to go with eight rebounds.

Junior Sam Sweeney (Burlington, Vt.) made four 3-pointers and scored 14 points.

There were two ties and four lead changes in the game with the Bears' last lead coming in the first half.

BSU fell behind, 7-0, in the opening 1:02 before taking a 10-9 lead with 15:24 left in the half on a 3-pointer by Sweeney.

A 3-pointer by Kikuba pulled the Bears within 16-15 with 13:03 to go, but the Raiders scored nine unanswered points for a 25-15 advantage.

BSU missed six shots in a row and turned the ball over twice.

The Bears were down, 25-20, after a Taylor basket with 8:46 left in the half and it was 30-30 after a Sweeney 3-pointer. But Rivier scored nine points in a row for a 39-30 lead and the Bears were behind, 43-33, at the midway point.

BSU was unable to get any closer than nine in the second half, falling behind by 15 in the opening 1:30.

Rivier made 49 percent of its shots while the Bears were at 41 points. BSU hit 9 of 25 of its 3-pointers and had just eight assists on 29 baskets.

The Bears will be home Wednesday night for the final game before the semester break, hosting Emerson College at 6 p.m. at the Tinsley Center.

Rivier travels to Mitchell College on Monday for a 5 p.m. matchup in its last game before the break.
