PAXTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University field hockey team kept its winning ways going on Tuesday night at Caparso Field.
Junior Abbie Zuber (Westport, Mass.) and sophomore Samantha Souza (Dartmouth, Mass.) each had two goals and an assist as the Bears defeated Anna Maria College, 6-1.
BSU is now 6-1 for its best start since 2012 and has opened 3-0 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Anna Maria, a first-year member of the conference, is 1-6 and 0-2 in the MASCAC.
Zuber, a Bears captain, recorded a hat track in her previous game against Salem State, a 10-1 win.
After scoring all nine of her career goals in 2024, Zuber equaled that with nine through seven games this season.
Zuber scored twice in just over six minutes in the third period as BSU broke away in a game that had been tied, 1-1, at halftime.
Souza had two fourth-period goals in less than five minutes. She now has 14 goals to lead the MASCAC and entered the week first nationally in goals per game in Division III.
Freshman Ellie Moberg (North Reading, Mass.) had a goal and an assist and now has four goals on the season.
Senior Raegen Perry (Nantucket, Mass.) gave the Bears a 1-0 lead following a scoreless first period, netting a goal 9:26 into the second session with an assist to sophomore Makena Flanagan (Clinton, Mass.). Flanagan sent a crossing pass to the front of the net and Perry knocked it home.
The AMCATS tied it just over three minutes later on an unassisted goal by sophomore Lily Celata (Baldwinville, Mass.) with 2:15 remaining until halftime.
It remained 1-1 until Zuber scored again five minutes into the third period with Souza getting the assist. Zuber received a pass near the top of the circle, stickhandled to the right and ripped a long distance shot inside the left post.
Moberg made it 3-1 less than two minutes later with sophomore Kallie Rose (Dartmouth, Mass.) getting the assist. The goal came off a penalty corner with Moberg tucking home a nice feed from Rose near the goal line.
Zuber finished the third-period scoring with 3:22 remaining in the period, Moberg assisting. The Bears converted again off a penalty corner with Moberg corralling a loose ball to left of the cage and finding an open Zuber in front.
In the fourth period, Souza netted her team-leading 13th and 14th goals of the 2025 campaign. The first strike came with 6:50 left to play as Souza buried a shot inside the left post from 14 yards out. She capped off the scoring with just under two minutes remaining on a spinning backhander with Zuber collecting the assist.
Souza had eight shots on goal while Zuber added six.
Bears senior goalkeeper Brianna Gagnon (Tewksbury, Mass.) made one save in recording the win.
Sophomore Julianna Stanger (New Braintree, Mass.) stopped 15 shots in goal for the AMCATS.
BSU outshot Anna Maria, 45-2, and had a 21-2 edge in shots on goal and an 18-1 advantage in penalty corners.
BSU is on the road again Saturday, playing at Dean College at noon.
Anna Maria has a Friday night road game against Westfield State at 7 p.m.
