BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College senior linebacker John Ferbert has been selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Northeast Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bears' 42-6 win over UMass Dartmouth this past Saturday.
A native of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Ferbert paced the BSC defense against the Corsairs as he recorded 11 tackles to go along with a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and an interception. His forced fumble in the third quarter was scooped up by teammate Steve Tripp (North Dighton, MA) who rambled 45 yards for a touchdown.
Through two games this season, Ferbert leads the Bears with 17 tackles as well as his two fumble recoveries. He has accumulated 80 tackles (48 solo) in his four seasons at BSC.
Bridgewater ranks second in the NEFC in points allowed (17.5 ppg) and total defense (280.0 ypg). The Bears are also tied for second in turnover margin (+5) and opponent third down conversion percentage (22.2%), and are fourth in defensive pass efficiency (94.1).
