FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University baseball team ran its winning streak to eight with a doubleheader sweep of Framingham State University Saturday afternoon.
The Bears took the opener, 14-4, and kept the offense rolling in the second game, defeating the Rams, 12-4.
In a three-game series with Framingham State that began Friday afternoon, BSU scored 49 runs and had 56 hits.
The Bears (13-5) are now 8-1 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference while the Rams (2-14) are 0-8 in the conference.
Game One: Bridgewater State 14, Framingham State 4
The Bears scored at least a run in each of the first six innings, getting five in the third and four in the sixth.
BSU outhit the Rams, 16-10, with six players getting at least two hits.
Sophomore Jamie Luna (Warwick, R.I.) was 3-for-4 and senior Ryan Flaherty (Duxbury, Mass.) went 3-for-5.
Juniors Rylan Secovich (Southwick, Mass.), who had two RBI, Logan Petrosino (Beverly, Mass.) and Benjamin Sepeck (Whitman, Mass.) plus sophomore Cam Beltramini (Hanson, Mass.) went 2-for-4.
Senior Danny Jasmin (East Meadow, N.Y.) was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs and eight hits with eight strikeouts in five innings and is 1-0. Senior Matt Kustigian (Charlton, Mass.) pitched the final two innings.
The Bears took a 2-0 lead by scoring a run in each of the first two innings.
Secovich walked in the first, went to second on a passed ball and stole third before scoring on an error.
In the second, Secovich had a two-out double to left and scored on Beltramini's single to right.
Framingham State moved within 2-1 in the second when sophomore Rosco Palmer (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) tripled and scored on a two-out hit by freshman Zach Kern (Swansea, Mass.).
The Bears went ahead, 7-1, in the third as Luna, freshman Nick Berube (Swampscott, Mass.) and Petrosino had RBI singles and Secovich drove in a pair with a single through the left side.
The lead went to 9-1 in the fourth with one run scoring on a wild pitch and the other on a double to left by Petrosino.
In the fifth, senior DJ Prampin (Worcester, Mass.) had a sacrifice fly for a 10-1 lead. The Rams scored twice in the bottom of the frame on a run-scoring double by junior Johnny Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) and an RBI single by sophomore Nicholas Kutcher (Newbury, Mass.).
BSU concluded its scoring with four in the sixth, getting a run on a passed ball and another on an error while Flaherty and Luna had RBI singles.
The Rams scored an unearned run in the seventh.
Game Two: Bridgewater State 12, Framingham State 4
Beltramini and Sepeck (two RBI) had three hits each for the Bears while Secovich, Flaherty, Prampin and senior Joshua Selander (Granby, Conn.) each had two hits.
BSU was down, 3-2, after the first inning but scored nine runs in the next three innings to take control.
The Bears held a 2-0 lead in the first as Selander had an RBI single and the second run scored on an error.
Framingham State took a 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the inning as Palmer had a two-run single and a throwing error brought in the next run.
BSU tied it in the second when Petrosino doubled to center and scored on a single by Secovich.
The Bears went up, 5-3, in the third on a two-run single through the left side by Sepeck, scoring Beltramini, wkho had singled, and Flaherty, who had doubled.
BSU erupted for six runs in the fourth.
Secovich singled and Beltramini doubled, and Flaherty's groundout scored the first run.
Selander singled in a run, and after Sepeck doubled to right, Prampin had a two-run double to center.
Luna homered to left for the final two runs of the inning and an 11-3 lead.
BSU scored once in the sixth as Sepeck doubled and scored on an error.
Framingham State scored a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Massimo Mondi (Rockaway, N.J.).
Senior Blake Samuelson (Millbury, Mass.) was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs and two hits in four innings and struck out three. He is now 1-1.
Junior Jaden Arruda (Seekonk, Mass.) pitched the final three innings for his first collegiate save. Arruda gave up a run on four hits.
BSU is home Tuesday at 3 p.m. for a MASCAC doubleheader against Salem State.
Framingham State will host the Mass. Maritime Academy in a doubleheader Tuesday at 2 p.m.
