Baseball Bears Cruise to 16-1 Win over Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – The visiting Bridgewater State University baseball team cruised to a 16-1 victory over Gordon College on Tuesday afternoon at J. Tec White Field.

The Bears improve to 10-14 on the season, while the host Fighting Scots fall to 7-23.

Bridgewater State banged out 14 hits in the contest and scored at least one run in seven of the nine innings. Along with the 14 hits allowed, Gordon pitching also issued 12 walks and hit a batter.

Sophomore right-hander Trever Dennett (Kingston, Mass.) tossed seven scoreless innings to record his first collegiate win on the mound for the Bears. Dennett (1-1) scattered six hits, did not walk anyone and fanned three.

Junior Lewis Robinson (New Britain, Conn.) paced Bridgewater's 14-hit attack as he was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple, a walk and a sacrifice fly. Robinson scored three runs and drove in three.

Junior Jonathan Livolsi (Bridgewater, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with a double, a walk, four runs and two RBI, while sophomore Matt McDonald (Randolph, Mass.) was 2-for-6 on the afternoon with a double, triple, two runs and two RBI.

Freshman Ruben Gonzalez (Stoughton, Mass.) also recorded multipole hits for the Bears as he went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Junior right-hander Garrett Poole (Rindge, N.H.)was tagged with the loss on the hill for the Fighting Scots. Poole allowed five runs on seven hits over 2 1/3 innings with a walk and a strikeout. Five Gordon relievers combined to give up 11 runs (seven earned) on seven hits and 11 walks with three strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Junior John Lagerfeldt (Stratford, Conn.) went 3-for-3 with a double and drove in the Fighting Scots' lone run of the game with a sacrifice fly.

In upcoming action, the Bears entertain Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Framingham State University on Thursday afternoon at 3:30, while the Fighting Scots host Emerson College on Wednesday afternoon also at 3:30.
