BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the sixth straight week and seventh time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Jayci Andrews has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.
The MASCAC Athlete of the Week honor marks the 34th of Andrews' career including 15 outdoor distinctions.
A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Andrews captured the national title in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships held last week at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. She broke her own school record with a finals time of 13.66 seconds which marked the second-fastest winning time at the Division III championships since 1998.
Andrews also earned All-American accolades in the 400-meter hurdles at the national championship meet with a third place finals time of 1:00.39. She broke her own school record in the preliminaries of the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.08.
A four-time All-American, Andrews is the first Bridgewater State student-athlete to win multiple NCAA titles after claiming the national title in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships this past March at the Reggie Lewis Center. She also garnered All-American honors last spring with a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Andrews presently holds nine individual school records at Bridgewater State (along with three relay marks). She is the Bears indoor record holder in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50), 60-meter hurdles (8.68), long jump (17'6.75"), 200-meter dash (26.37) and 400-meter dash (57.14), as well as the outdoor record holder in the 100-meter hurdles (13.66), 400-meter hurdles (1:00.08), 400-meter dash (55.76) and long jump (17'8.75").
