BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) placed fourth in the shot put at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational on Friday afternoon at cold and rainy Swenson Field.
Gilbreath posted a mark of 41 feet, 2.25 inches (12.55m) as she finished first among Division III student-athletes. The top three placewinners in the event were all from Division I Northeastern University.
Gilbreath currently ranks first in all of Division III in the shot put.
Sophomore Ashley Garvey (Woburn, Mass.), who was the only other Bear to advance to the finals, placed ninth overall in the shot put with a toss of 31 feet, four inches (9.55m).
The hammer throw was cancelled due to poor conditions around the throwing area.
The BSU Bears Invitational continues on Saturday morning with events getting underway at 9:00 AM.
