BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior third baseman Jennifer Shaw has been named to the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Softball All-Star Team.
Shaw, a second team selection, is making her second straight appearance on the all-star team as she was a first team honoree in 2011.
Shaw slugged her way to a tremendous campaign in 2012 as she batted .402 (49-122) with nine home runs, 12 doubles, 31 runs scored and 39 RBI. The Brockton, Massachusetts native also posted a .738 slugging percentage as well as a .486 on base percentage over 42 games.
Shaw led the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in slugging percentage and on base percentage and tied for the league lead in doubles. She also ranked second in homers, runs batted in and total bases (90), and finished third in batting, fourth in walks (20), fifth in runs scored and sixth in hits.
Shaw's nine four-baggers mark the highest single-season total at Bridgewater State since Jen Goodwin belted ten in 1996. Goodwin, a 2005 BSU Hall of Fame inductee, holds both the Bears' single-season and career marks for homers with 14 in 1995 and 38 overall.
The Bridgewater State softball team finished the 2012 season with a record of 29-13. Seeded second in the MASCAC Tournament with an 11-3 conference mark, the Bears blanked third-seeded Salem State, 4-0, in the opening game of the double-elimination tournament. Bridgewater was eliminated after dropping a 4-0 decision to Westfield State and a 7-5 decision to eventual champion Salem.
In 102 games over three seasons with the Bears, Shaw has produced a .378 career batting average (102-270) with 22 doubles, 17 homers, 66 runs scored and 79 RBI.
Other regional postseason honors for Shaw in 2012 include both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA) Division III All-New England Second Teams. She was also named to the All-MASCAC First Team and was selected as the MASCAC Player of the Year by the league's coaches.
