Michaela Ferreira Named MASCAC Softball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior second baseman Michaela Ferreira has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player of the Week.

A native of Fall River, Massachusetts, Ferreira batted .500 (7-14) with a double, three walks, five runs scored and five RBI in a 5-1 week for the Bears.  She also posted a .556 on base percentage and did not commit an error in 19 chances (7 PO, 12 A) at second base.

Ferreira went 2-for-5 with a run scored in a MASCAC split with Westfield, and finished 4-for-6 at the plate with two runs and two RBI in a conference sweep of Framingham.  She was also 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and three RBI as the Bears posted a pair of non-conference wins over Rhode Island College.

In 23 games this season, Ferreira is batting .293 (12-41) with ten runs and ten RBI. 

Ferreira is a career .324 (99-306) hitter with a home run, 14 doubles, five triples, 17 stolen bases, 54 runs scored and 61 RBI in 133 games.  She has also walked 39 times, been hit by a pitch 11 times and has produced a .416 on base percentage since 2009.

The BSU softball team is presently 17-7 on the season and tied for first in the MASCAC standings with a 3-1 league record.  The Bears take on Nichols College in a non-conference twinbill on Tuesday afternoon at three.
