AMHERST, Mass. -- Two members of the Bridgewater State University men's outdoors track & field team placed in the top five at the Amherst Spring Fling.
Freshman Clayton Pastor Norales (New Bedford, Mass.) was fourth in the long jump at the 10-team meet held at Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium Saturday.
Junior Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) took fifth place in the 100-meter dash.
Pastor Norales recorded a jump of 22 feet, 1.75 inches (6.75).
Mooney had a PR of 10.72 seconds in the 100 to place in the top five as he was just 2/100 of a second off Matthew Lighten's school record time of 10.70 set in 2022. Mooney was also 13th in the 200 with a time of 22.59.
Senior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) was sixth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.38 seconds.
Also in the top 10 for the Bears were freshman Christopher Williams (Burlington, Mass.), who took seventh in the shot put (40 feet, seven and one-half inches) and Jayvon Lodge (Brockton, Mass.), who was ninth in that event (40'5"/12.32m).
Senior Javon Epps (Brockton, Mass.) was 11th in the 100 with a personal-best time of 10.87 seconds.
Senior Dasean Peters-Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) was 14th in the 100 in a PR of 10.89 seconds, and finished 17th in the 200 in 23.13.
In the triple jump, senior Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.) finished 12th with a PR of 40 feet, 3.5 inched (12.28m) while freshman Gavin McElwee (Halifax, Mass.) was also 12th in the javelin (132'4"/40.35m).
Sophomore Malachi Chansky (Millis, Mass.) was 12th in the long jump with a PR of 20 feet, nine inches (6.32m) and senior Colin Daly (Easton, Mass.) took 13th in the hammer throw. Daly set a personal-best with his mark of 140 feet, five inches (42.81m).
In the 400 hurdles, freshman Evan Young (Winchendon, Mass.) was 12th (1:02.02) with junior Ryan McCarthy (Weymouth, Mass.) 13th in the race. McCarthy's time of 1:02.70 marked a PR.
Graduate student Landon Crowley (West Bridgewater, Mass.) finished 14th in the 200 (22.87).
Junior Aydan Fournier (Assonet, Mass.) placed 15th in the 400 with a personal-best time of 51.09. Freshman John Duffy (Franklin, Mass.) was 17th in the triple jump (39'3.75"/11.98m).
Sophomore Drew Alves (Taunton, Mass.) check in at 16th in the 110 hurdles with a PR of 16.31 seconds.
The Bears' 4x400 relay team of Grace, Fournier, sophomore Joshua Cardichon (Brockton, Mass.) and Crowley was ninth in 3:34.44.
BSU will be at the Tufts Spring Invitational Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m.
