FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team competed at the non-scoring Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University on Saturday afternoon.
Senior John Lara (Fall River, Mass.), competing in his first meet of the season, captured top honors in both the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles. Lara posted a time of 51.78 seconds in the 400, and 1:02.15 in the 400 hurdles.
The Bears' relay squad featuring freshman Noah Lanner (Hull, Mass.), junior Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.), sophomore Blake Kerwin (Rehoboth, Mass.) and junior Jadin Bruneau (Taunton, Mass.) placed first in the 4x100 with a time of 43.62 seconds.
Lighten also won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.27 seconds.
In the field events, sophomore Jacob Belcher (Halifax, Mass.) placed first in the hammer throw with a distance of 132 feet, six inches (40.38m), while classmate Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) tossed the javelin a meet-best 174 feet, four inches (53.14m).
Senior Joseph Zingarelli (North Kingston, R.I.) won the pole vault in his first meet of the season as he recorded a vault of 11 feet, six inches (3.50m).
The Bears will compete next Saturday (2:00 PM) at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University.
