Julie Clerc Named MASCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State College sophomore outside hitter Julie Clerc has been selected as the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Player of the Week.

A native of Acushnet, Massachusetts, Clerc averaged 15.4 kills, 5.8 digs and 2.8 aces in five matches on week for Bears, including 22 kills, 10 digs and three aces in 3-2 victory at Westfield State that clinched a tie for MASCAC regular season title.

Clerc was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the BSC Halloween Classic over the weekend as well as she helped the Bears post a fourth place finish.  She tallied 55 kills, 10 aces and 19 digs in BSC's four matches for the tournament.

Through 33 matches this season, Clerc leads the Bears in kills with 355 and in aces with 63.  She is also second on the team with a .203 hitting percentage and in digs with 267, and is fifth in blocks with 29.

Bridgewater State (10-23) will be the top seed and host for the 2008 MASCAC Volleyball Tournament which will take place on Saturday, November 8th. The Bears, who have won the tournament nine straight years, will take on fourth seeded Worcester State in their semifinal match starting at 10 AM.
