Kira Gilbreath Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the fifth time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Kira Gilbreath has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. GEICO is a proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Gilbreath captured both the MASCAC and New England Alliance titles in the shot put with a season-best toss of 44 feet, 6.25 inches (13.57m) this past weekend at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships held at Fitchburg State University. The West Haven, Utah product is now a four-time MASCAC champion in the shot put as she earned the honor for both the indoor and outdoor seasons each of the last two years.

The MASCAC weekly accolade marks the 13th of Gilbreath’s career including six outdoor distinctions.

Gilbreath, who competed at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships last spring, currently ranks tenth in all of Division III in the shot put. She captured the New England crown in the shot put at the 2018 Division III New England Outdoor Championships, and earned USTFCCCA All-New England honors in the event put for both the 2017-2018 indoor and outdoor seasons as well as the 2019 indoor campaign.

Qualifying members of the BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete on Friday and Saturday at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Williams College.
