Veronica Wiggins Named MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Veronica Wiggins has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week.
A native of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Wiggins captured top honors in the shot put with a toss of 37 feet, 6.5 inches (11.44 meters) at the Eric Loeschner Meet hosted by Fitchburg State University this past weekend. She also placed fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 127 feet, one inch (38.75 meters) to help BSU finish third in the team standings.
Wiggins is the Bears' third rookie of the week selection this outdoor season joining teammates Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) and three-time winner Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.).
Wiggins has qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the shot put as she currently ranks tenth in New England in the event.
The outdoor season continues for Wiggins and her teammates on Saturday when the Bears compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
