Jenna Williamson Named MASCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior guard Jenna Williamson has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

The Most Valuable Player of the 2013 MASCAC Tournament, Williamson averaged 25.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in a pair of games as she led the BSU women's basketball team to their third straight tournament title.  The Ludlow, Massachusetts native also shot 66.7% (14-21) from the field, 57.1% (8-14) from behind the arc and 88.2% (15-17) at the free throw line as the Bears will advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the third consecutive season.

Williamson tallied 17 points, six boards, three assists and a pair of steals in Bridgewater's 77-65 semifinal round win over Framingham State.  She then poured in a career-high 34 points (one shy of the Bears' single game record) to go along with four rebounds and a pair of steals as the Bears erased a 14-point second half deficit to down Westfield State in the title game, 85-72.  Williamson keyed a 15-0 second half run with a pair of three-pointers and converted 9 of 10 free throws in the final 73 seconds to secure the win over the Owls.

Through 26 games this season, Williamson is averaging 12.6 points as well as 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.1 steals.  She is shooting 38.5% (55-143) from behind the arc and 79.7% (55-69) at the free throw line.  Williamson's season total of 55 three-point field goals is three shy of the Bears' single-season program mark of 58 set by Corey Cuddihy in 2008-2009.

Williamson currently leads the MASCAC in three-point shooting and ranks second behind teammate Elisha Homich (Ludlow, Mass.) in free throw percentage.  She is also tenth in the conference with a .410 field goal percentage (109-266) and is 11th in scoring and 12th in assists.

In 80 career games over her first three seasons with the Bears, Williamson has amassed 938 points, 312 rebounds, 223 assists and 107 steals.  She is also a career 37.4% (151-404) shooter from behind the arc. Williamson and Homich (37.5%) are presently well above Kim Mooney's (1991-94) all-time BSU three-point shooting mark of 33.0% (101-for-306).

The BSU women's basketball team enters the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 23-3.  The 23 victories is the second highest win total in program history trailing only the '84-'85 team who went 26-2. The tournament selection show will take place on Monday afternoon at 2:30 PM (EST) and will be webcast live on www.ncaa.com.
