BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University senior third baseman Jennifer Shaw has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player of the Week.
Shaw batted .533 (8-15) with two doubles, three walks, a stolen base, four runs scored and a pair of RBI in five games for the Bears last week. The Brockton, Massachusetts native went 4-for-6 with a double, walk, three runs and an RBI in a doubleheader sweep of RIC; 1-for-3 with a double, walk, run and an RBI in a 6-5 win at Wheaton; and 3-for-6 with a walk in a MASCAC doubleheader sweep of Fitchburg State.
In 120 games over four seasons with the Bears, Shaw ranks fifth all-time in program history with a career .385 (126-327) batting average. She has also amassed 18 home runs, 26 doubles, 14 stolen bases, 81 runs scored and 88 RBI, and owns a career .642 slugging percentage and .450 on base percentage.
Shaw earned All-MASCAC First Team honors in both her sophomore and junior seasons and was named the MASCAC Player of the Year in 2012. She was also a Division III All-New England selection for three different organizations (ECAC, NFCA, NEISCA) in both 2011 and 2012.
The BSU softball team is currently 10-10 overall on the season and tied for first in the MASCAC standings with a 3-1 conference mark. The Bears host Nichols College on Tuesday afternoon at three in a non-conference doubleheader.
