BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore third baseman Jennifer Shaw has been chosen as a first team selection on the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Softball All-Star Team.

Shaw slugged her way to a tremendous campaign in 2011 as she batted .394 (37-94) with eight home runs, eight doubles, 28 runs scored and 32 RBI.  The Brockton, Massachusetts native also posted a .734 slugging percentage as well as a .448 on base percentage over 34 games.

Shaw led the MASCAC in slugging percentage and ranked second in homers, batting average, runs batted in and total bases (69).  She was also fourth in the conference in on base percentage, fifth in runs scored, sixth in hits and seventh in doubles.

Shaw's eight four-baggers mark the highest single-season total at Bridgewater State since Amanda Sanson, a 2009 BSU Hall of Fame inductee, also belted eight in 2002.  Another Bears' Fall of Famer, Jen Goodwin (Class of 2005), holds the program record for homers with 14 in 1995.

The Bridgewater State softball team finished the 2011 season with a record of 18-23.  Seeded fourth in the MASCAC Tournament with an 8-6 conference mark, the Bears upset top-seeded Westfield State in the opening game of the double-elimination tournament.  Bridgewater was eliminated after dropping back-to-back decisions to eventual champion Worcester State and Westfield.

In 59 games over two seasons with the Bears, Shaw has produced a .358 career batting average (53-148) with ten doubles, a triple, eight homers, 35 runs scored and 40 RBI.

This marks the third regional honor for Shaw as she was also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-New England First Team as well as the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA) Division III All-New England First Team.
