Men's Track & Field Places Third at Tufts Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men’s outdoor track and field team placed third (85.25 pts.) out of 24 teams at the Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University. Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass) and Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass) both captured top honors in one event to lead the team.

Division I Northeastern University won the meet title with a score of 110 points.  The Huskies were followed in the team standings by host Tufts (10 pts.) and Bridgewater State.

Espinosa won the long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 0.75 inches (7.03 meters) and placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13 seconds. Danner-Hicks won the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying jump of 45 feet, 9.25 inches (13.95 meters).

Danner-Hicks and Espinosa joined Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass) and Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass) in the 4x100 relay. The team qualified for the ECAC Championships and placed second in the event with a time of 42.54.

Andrew Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass) placed second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:00.20, qualifying for the Division III New England Championships. Dan Coulter (Norton, Mass) placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.99. Andrew Corley (Milton, Mass) placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a Division III New England qualifying time of 57.54. Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass) finished right behind him in fourth place with a time of 58.55.

The 4x400 and 4x800 relays both posted third place finishes on the day. Corley, Sawyer, Timothy Judge (East Bridgewater, Mass), and Joshua Goehring (Haverhill, Mass) ran a 3:27.98 in the 4x400. The 4x800 team of Justin Riley (Abington, Mass), John Breault (Dartmouth, Mass), Dallas O’Brien (Mansfield, Mass), and Aaron Landau (Norfolk, Mass) ran a time of 8:56.5.

Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass.) placed sixth in both the shot put and discus and qualified for both the DIII New England and ECAC championships in each event.  Cawley registered a distance of 47 feet, 3.75 inches (14.42 meters) in the shot, and 144 feet, three inches (43.97 meters) in the discus.

Matt Horan (Billerica, Mass.) finished seventh in the high jump with a leap of six feet, two inches (1.88 meters) as he qualified for the DIII New England Championships.

Next weekend, the Bears will head to the UMass Dartmouth Invitational which is slated to get underway at 11:00 AM.
