BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Stephan Cawley has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Cawley placed first in the shot put at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic this past weekend as he posted a mark of 49 feet, three inches (15.01 meters). The Dedham, Massachusetts native also placed third in the discus with a toss of 149 feet, nine inches (44.73 meters). With that put, Cawley eclipsed the Bears’ 27-year old outdoor mark of 45 feet, one inch set by Mike Cleaves in 1986.
Earlier in the season, Cawley qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships in both the shot put and discus. During the indoor season he garnerd All-ECAC and All-New England Division III honors in the shot put.
The outdoor season continues for Cawley and the BSU men’s track and field team as the Bears travel to Eastern Connecticut State University on Friday for the Eastern Invitational.
