BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior forward Joseph Carty has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
A native of Natick, Massachusetts, Carty averaged 16.7 points, 11 rebounds, 3.3 assists and a steal in a 3-0 week for the Bears. He also shot 87% (13-15) from the free throw line.
Carty tallied 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in an 81-75 win over Rhode Island College. He also posted a double-double with 24 points and 18 rebounds to go along with three assists in a 74-67 victory over Emerson College in the semifinal round of the 33rd Annual Harbor Invitational hosted by UMass Boston. Carty capped off the week with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and a steal in the Bears’ 82-78 championship game win over host UMass.
In five games this season, Carty is averaging 16 points, ten rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He is also shooting 40% (26-65) from the floor and 84% (27-32) at the charity stripe.
Carty currently leads the MASCAC in rebounding and ranks fourth in scoring, fifth in free throw shooting and seventh in assists.
In 46 games over three seasons with the Bears, Carty has amassed 559 points, 424 rebounds, 71 assists, 18 blocked shots and 26 steals.
The BSU men’s basketball team is presently 4-2 on the young season. The Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday night for a seven o’clock game with the Corsairs.
