Taylor Clancy is a junior majoring in Physical Education with a concentration in Exercise Science. She is a three sport athlete, competing with Indoor Track, Cross Country and Lacrosse teams. She maintains a 3.0 GPA while involved in those three sports and also participating on 3 committees, as well as an on campus job.
Taylor first chose BSU because of her experience during her recruitment overnight as well as the affordability of the university. Her first choice of sports was lacrosse due its strong program. She spent time with the Lacrosse team and saw how close they were at the beginning of the season. She also knew she could form a great relationship with the coaches. Taylor says “The lacrosse team is like one big family."
She has played lacrosse since her freshman year of high school and this is what brought Taylor to BSU. Being a multi-sport athlete was not uncommon for Taylor, running cross country since her junior year of high school. On her first day with Cross Country at BSU the girls ran 10 miles, making it a very memorable first day. The team is small which allows the women to become a very close knit group. During her sophomore year of college she joined indoor track to stay in shape for Lacrosse. Many of her teammates from Cross Country are also members of the track team, but many new people as well. In track Taylor runs mid-distance and has done relays. Although the track team is large in size she has become close with those students who compete in her events as well.
Throughout her childhood Taylor played basketball but once she got to college, she decided to focus on Lacrosse. Although Taylor plays three sports throughout the school year, she finds time to work in the equipment room in Kelly Gym and is also on three committees. She is on SAAC, Student Athletic Advisory Committee, Massachusetts-SAAC and Captains Council.
For SAAC, Taylor attends meetings once a month with other members from each team on campus. They discuss changes within NCAA regulations, things on campus that affect them and community service. The MASS-SAAC meets once a year with a handful of students from each of the state universities. They participate in leadership workshops; develop community service activities for the next year. Captains Council includes all of the captains from each of the intercollegiate teams on campus. Although each team is from a different sport as well as different sizes they all have similar issues. Captains Council helps each team work though any issues that come up.
